Stephen Kindell

Coach Geoff Masanet announced that Stephen Kindell would be joining the men’s and women’s track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach. Kindell arrives from Harris-Stowe State University of the American Midwest Conference, bringing head coaching experience to the Wolf Pack. Kindell spent last season as the Hornets’ Head Coach of the men’s and women’s track and field programs. At Harris-Stowe State, Kindell implemented a strength and condition program that revitalized the Hornets' track and field teams, bringing in five individual conference championships, three runner-up finishes and three record-breaking performances.

 

At HSSU, Kindell coached four American Midwest Conference champions and nine All-Conference athletes during the 2023 indoor season. In the outdoor season, Kindell oversaw the success of seven conference champions and twenty-one all-conference student-athletes. Before arriving at Harris-Stowe State, Kindell served in the NAIA National Office as the International Eligibility Coordinator. During his two-year tenure in the NAIA National Office, Kindell earned NAIA eligibility after studying international students, gathering athletic and academic information about them.

 

While working in the NAIA Office, Kindell also coached at the high school level at Blue Valley Northwest High School. Kindell also trained athletes by improving strength and conditioning activities at the high school level. With Kindell’s training and coaching, he oversaw multiple state qualifiers at Blue Valley. 

 

Kindell studied Economics at the University of Missouri Kansas City, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2001. At UMKC, Kindell competed under Coach Masanet, when he was the head coach from 1997 through 2001. In 2016, Kindell was named to the UMKC Track and Field Hall of Fame Class. Kindell owns Sun Tribe Fitness, doing private strength and conditioning training for athletes of all ages in youth sports. He is a USATF coach with level one certification and distinction in sprints and hurdles. Kindell also has certification in USTFCCCA and ISSA, focusing on strength and condition.
