Tyler Nielson joined the Wolf Pack men's basketball program as an assistant coach in the fall of 2018.

During his first season with the program, Nielson helped the Wolf Pack reach the round of 16 at the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 1946. He assisted in coaching freshman Myles Burns and Zach Wrightsil to First-Team All-SSAC, NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, and LSWA All-State honors. Four student-athletes were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, while senior Ethan Turner was named the SSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Nielson joined the Wolf Pack from The University of Texas at El Paso where he spent the past three years working on the men's basketball staff. During the 2017-18 season he served as video coordinator for the Miners where he helped compile scouting reports, run film sessions and walkthroughs, and work players out. A graduate assistant from 2015-2017, Nielson worked with numerous student-athletes now playing basketball professionally during his time in El Paso, Texas under head coach Tim Floyd.

A graduate from UTEP, he received his undergraduate degree in multidisciplinary studies and his master's in leadership studies. Nielson previously worked in the nonprofit sector, starting his own company following his time as a walk-on at Utah Valley University for coach Dick Hunsaker.

Nielson, oringally from Round Rock, Texas, is married to his wife Michelle and has a daughter named Leah.
