MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the second time this season, Loyola Wolf Pack junior Kameron Johnson has been selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Â
Johnson is one of four Wolf Pack men's basketball players to receive an SSAC weekly award this season, along with Zachary Lee, Kosta Bjelicic, and Jaylen Peters. He also is the only men's player to earn the honor twice this year, and he was named NAIA National Player of the Week earlier this season.Â
Â
With Johnson leading the offense, the Wolf Pack won two conference games in the past week over Point (90-83) and Brewton-Parker Christian (88-73) to extend the team's winning streak to four.Â
Â
The Wolf Pack point guard has increased his scoring total in each game of the current win streak. After scoring 19 and 21 against Abraham Baldwin and Thomas the previous week, Johnson poured in 23 points against the Skyhawks on Thursday and 25 on Saturday against the Barons. The junior contributed more than just scoring, however, dishing out 11 assists in the Point game and seven more against Brewton-Parker, with a combined 15 rebounds between the two contests.Â
Â
So far this season, Johnson is second in the SSAC in scoring at 17.7 points per game. His 6.7 assists per game lead the conference, and his 120 total assists rank fourth in the entire NAIA.Â
Â
Loyola will look to continue its winning streak tonight, as the Wolf Pack will host 18-1 William Carey at 7:30 p.m. The Pack will then hit the road to face some of the top teams in the SSAC East, Dalton State and Life, later this week.Â
