NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack women's basketball program added an established coaching mind to its bench this season, as long-time Tulane assistant coach Alan Frey joins head coach Kellie Kennedy's staff.

"The opportunity to join Coach Kennedy's staff is incredibly exciting," Frey said. "She has developed the Loyola program into a national powerhouse, and having the opportunity to be a part of the team's continued success is something I cherish. I have such admiration for the way that she runs this program, and I cannot wait to learn from her every day."

Frey brings more than 20 years of collegiate coaching experience back to Loyola, where he previously served on the men's basketball staff from 2004–2006. Most recently, he spent the 2024–25 season at Monmouth University, helping lead a remarkable turnaround that saw the Hawks go from an 0–6 start to finishing with a winning record and a top-five position in their conference standings. Frey assisted with all day-to-day operations, including recruiting, scouting, game scheduling, and implementing offensive and defensive systems.

Before Monmouth, Frey spent 18 years at Tulane University, where he helped build one of the most successful eras in program history. Promoted to associate head coach in 2019, he played a key role in a Green Wave program that averaged nearly 20 wins per season over 18 years and earned 12 postseason tournament appearances. His recruitment and development of elite talent at Tulane followed one of the most successful careers in AAU girls' basketball nationwide. As head coach of the Kenner Angels Louisiana Basketball Club from 1992–2006, Frey led the program to five AAU national championships, 12 Final Fours, and 15 state titles.

In addition to his basketball career, Frey has held executive leadership roles in nonprofit fundraising, including serving as Executive Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Louisiana Chapter, Vice President for Development at the LSU Medical Center Foundation, Director of Development at Jesuit High School, and Development Manager at Sustaining our Urban Landscape.

"We are so excited to have Alan on board," Kennedy said. "He brings such a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program, along with a passion for the game that is contagious. He adds so much to our staff and team and helps us get better every day. He is a tremendous asset to our program."
