CLINTON, Miss. – The Loyola men's and women's cross country teams made the trip to Mississippi to compete in the Mississippi College Watson Classic on Friday. The Wolf Pack competed against teams from across the Southern United States and several divisions of college athletics. The Loyola women placed 17th out of 23 competing teams in the 6-kilometer run while the men finished 7th out of 21 programs in the 8-kilometer race.

The Wolf Pack will conclude the cross country season at the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships in Oakville, Alabama on Friday, Nov. 8.Â

In a race of 178 athletes, Jasmine Martinez was the first to finish for the Wolf Pack, earning a 24:41.6 time. Martinez's time on Friday enters the Loyola record book as the sixth-best time in program history in the 6-kilometer run. Martinez's performance on Friday is also her second top-10 program record for the 6-kilometer event, earning a 25:08 time at the Loyola Triangular meet earlier this month. Sophia Freeze was the next Loyola athlete to end the race, finishing in 87th place, recording a 26:02.8 time. Kinslie Badon was next up for the Pack, earning 90th place and a 26:11.7 time.Â

Emma Meneses and Madison Leishman completed the race in 100th and 103rd places, receiving times of 26:24.2 and 26:30.7, respectively. Caitlyn Summers and Sarah Haas helped Loyola secure its finish, ending the race in 132nd and 149th places for times of 28:07.9 and 31:01.7.

Jacob Kennedy had a career day on Friday, finishing in 15th place among 221 runners in the men's 8-kilometer event. Kennedy notched a time of 25:34.2, the best time in program history for the 8-kilometer run. Kennedy's record-breaking entry on Friday is also his second top-10 time in the record book for the 8-kilometer event. Drake Breland and Jace Luckoski finished in 40th and 41st places, getting times of 26:19.4 and 26:21.6, respectively. Connor Meigs ended the race shortly after, earning a 66th-place finish and a 26:55.0 time.Â

Evon Gocan and John Hall got consecutive finishes, completing the race in 114th and 115th to lock in times of 27:58.9 and 28:02.9. In 117th and 118th places, Jacob Mullis and Alex Medina received times of 28:06.1 and 28:09.1, respectively. Elijah Reeves closely followed, getting 127th place and a time of 28:20.9. Daniel Miller and Carter Scheuermann helped Loyola secure its seventh-place team finish, ending the race in 162nd and 190th for times of 29:06.9 and 30:52.0, respectively.
