Wolf Pack loses two at Lyon College Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The 12th-ranked Loyola baseball team is on the road for three straight days starting on Sunday, suffering two loses to the Scots in the first two games of their three-game series

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Loyola University New Orleans baseball team traveled to Batesville, Arkansas, this weekend to take on the Lyon College Scots for a three-game series. The two teams played a doublehead on Sunday before Monday afternoon's series finale, as Lyon College took both games 5-3 and 6-2 over the Pack (9-8 overall).

Game 3 is set for 1 p.m. on Monday.

Game 1: Lyon College 5, #12 Loyola 3

The Wolf Pack fell into a 3-0 hole early and they never could recover, dropping the first game of the day. After the Scots scored the three first-inning runs, Loyola pushed two runs across in the top of the third inning. With one out, Kason Cullins homered to cut the deficit to two, then an Allen Dennis double led to an RBI single by Ross Selvaggi to make it a 3-2 game.

Lyon College, however, got those runs back in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 5-2 lead until Loyola scored again in the next half inning. Tyler Hopkins led off the top of the fourth with a walk, then pinch runner Aaron Davis scored two at-bats later when Christopher Bohrer doubled, making it a 5-3 game.

Loyola tried to put a rally together in the final inning, getting the go-ahead run at the plate. With two outs, Dennis singled before a Selvaggi double, putting two in scoring position, but Lyon College got a strikeout to end the game.

Game 2: Lyon College 6, #12 Loyola 2

Lyon College, again, started the game with a three-spot on the scoreboard, taking the early advantage of the Wolf Pack after one inning. Loyola didn't record a hit until the fifth inning, but Payton Alexander and Selvaggi walked in the second and fourth innings, respectively, to put Wolf Pack runners on base, but they couldn't string anything together until the fifth. Luke Clement walked to start that frame, then Cameron Trosclair notched the Pack's first hit with a two-run home run to cut the Scots' lead to 3-2.

Lyon College unfortunately scored three more runs in the sixth inning, and Loyola stranded four more runners throughout the rest of the game.

  • Despite going hitless and not extending his 16-game on base streak in Game 2 on Sunday, Allen Dennis has still put up impressive numbers in the last four games. After going 3-for-4 in Game 1, the senior is now 9-for-17 in his last four games with two doubles and three home runs.
