LOUDON, Tenn. – The Loyola University New Orleans men's golf team had a successful week in Loudon, Tennessee, this week, claiming third place at the Faulkner Eagle Match Play Invitational. As the No. 7 seed, the team started the week by beating No. 2-seed Tennessee Wesleyan on Monday before narrowly losing its semifinal match with No. 6-seed Faulkner. On Tuesday, though, the Wolf Pack took down top-seeded Point University, 3-2-0, in a nail-biting match to walk away with third place out of the eight competing teams. 
 

After Arthur Mijic and Trey Ponce each collected wins, and the match tied at 2-all, Logan Peterson needed to fight out of a hole late in his match in order for the Pack to have a chance. With five holes to play, Peterson was trailing by three only to battle back and tie the match after 18 holes. In the second playoff hole, Peterson carded a birdie to win the match and edge Loyola past Point, which is the No. 21-ranked team in the NAIA. 
 

Mijic dominated his match from the start, quickly taking a three-hole lead after three holes. The sophomore was even five holes ahead after nine holes, as he coasted to his victory. Ponce and his counterpart played a tight match with the round tied during eight of the first 11 holes. Finally, Ponce broke through and jumped up three with four holes to play, and he closed out his victory with ease. Gabriel Porges lost a close match, 1 DOWN, and Chase Venn dropped a 5&3 contest with his competitor. 
 

Loyola is next scheduled to play in the William Carey Gulf Shores Invitational Oct. 24-25 at Peninsula Golf Club.
